Consumers and companies care about the origin of their products, especially in the food industry. Ethical production and sustainability have become topic of conversation over the last years. We expect producers to be more transparant about the production process and the origin of products.

There are various reasons why consumers care about the origin of the products they buy. For example, we are more environmentally aware then before. It also has to do with the trustworthy of the companies. Transparency builds trust, and makes us feel a company has higher ethical standards.

Popularity avocados

Avocados have been increasing in popularity since the early zeros. The Netherlands plays an important part in importing and exporting avocados. In 2020, Dutch imports of avocados showed 19 percent year-on growth. In 2000, the Netherlands imported 15 milion kilograms avocados. In 2020, this was 373 milion kilograms avocados. At the moment the Netherlands is the world’s second largest importer of avocados and the largest non-producing exporter. The Netherlands has a share of 63% of all EU imports of avocados produced outside the union.

The Netherlands isn’t the only country who plays an important part in importing and exporting avocados. The United States is the biggest importer of avocados, they imported 1105 milion kilograms avocados in 2020. Other countries like France, Spain are also part of this massive growth.

      #FunFact: The first-ever all-avocado restaurant called “The Avocado Show” opened it doors in Amsterdam.

Dutch entrepeneurs saw how popular avocados were within the world, so they started the first all-avocado restaurant, called “The Avocado Show”. They first opened their doors in March 2017. 5 years later, in 2022, the Avocado Show has more than 20 locations across Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. This is an example that shows that avocado is very popular at the moment.

There is a lot of diversity on the market when it comes to avocado products, for example avocado greek dips, avocado chocolate bars, avocado puddings and avocado oils. Organic avocado oils are worldwide popular, you can even buy it in supermarkets. Avocados have high nutrient content and have become popular in cooking, but also in skin and hair care.

Uses

Salads, dressings and sauces

Avocado oil is very mild in flavor, it has a buttery and nutty taste.  Especially with some extract salt, avocado oil can be the perfect addition to your dressing. It’s also used as an ingredient and topping for meat dishes and other dishes.  The mild flavor is a great addition for your dish.

Cooking and baking with avocado oil. 

Avocado oil is known for his high smoking- or burning point.  The smoking point  is 270 °C, very high compared to other oils like flaxseed oil, which has a smoking point of 107 °C. The smoke point of an oil refers to the temperature which it begins to smoke. It also degrades the quality and the taste of the oil. Avocado oil can tolerate higher temperatures, so it’s very suited for deep frying or roasting vegetables on high heat.

Smoothies and juices.

Avocado oil is also used in smoothies and juices. It’s a good source of monounsaturated fat, which has been linked to reducing LDL cholesterol.  Too much LDL cholesterol is bad for your health.

Avocados are also used in hair products.

Avocado Oil production

In 2020, the production of avocados amounted to about 6 milion metric tons. Mexico is the top avocado producing country in the world. Mexico produces around 2 milion metric tons every year. The majority avocados besides Mexico grow in: Columbia, Dominican Republic, Peru, Indonesia, Kenya, Brazil, Ethiopia and Israel.

Spacks Organic Avocado Oil is sourced directly from Kenya. The supplier has been producing avocado oil for over 14 years, and cooperates with other local farmers. Quality control is important, there are procedures to ensure avocados meets the requirements, to produce the best avocado oil.

Sustainability is important for the supplier. The perfect solution has been built how to deal with the factory’s organic waste. The residue of the oil is converted to biogas, which is used to produce electricity.

Organic Avocado Oil, Refined

The refined avocado oil has very little or no flavor. The refined avocado oil is mostly used for cooking applications. The refined avocado oil has a mild, buttery flavor that works well in various recipes. This product can be produced in our different types of packaging.

Organic Avocado Oil, Extra Virgin

The Organic Avocado Oil, Extra Virgin is only produced with mechanical means, this means that there are no chemicals or preservatives used. This method of producing keeps all the goodness of the avocados.

Organic Avocado Oil, Premium

The premium avocado oil is our newest oil, and is a blend of organic refined avocado oil and organic virgin avocado oil.  The premium avocado oil is more stable and contains 100% avocado oil.

Avocado oil is very popular, this isn’t only because of its taste, but also because of the health benefits avocado oil contains. Here is an example of an health benefit of avocado oil.

Reducing LDL cholesterol and increasing HDL cholesterol

Avocado oil is a good source of monounsaturated fat, this has been linked to reducing LDL (bad) cholesterol and increasing HDL (good) cholesterol. You can get strokes and artery diseases if you have to much LDL cholesterol.

Organic Avocado Oil can be packed in different kind of packaging. With the different production lines we have, we are very flexibible in our planning. Our packaging can variate from 250 mililiter bottles, to containers of 1000 liter.
